With the energy industry becoming an increasingly competitive marketplace Meridian Energy, one of new Zealand’s largest energy providers employing around 1,000 people, consistently explore new and innovative ways to differentiate. One such innovation was to explore opportunities to offer their corporate customers 100% Certified Renewable Energy thus eliminating the need to carbon offset. 

The challenge

When Meridian Energy started exploring opportunities to achieve a renewable energy accreditation that would guarantee Meridian Energy as 100% renewable they reached out to D&Co to understand customer desirability and develop a range of customer value propositions.

Accelerating the 100% certified renewable energy proposition.

Our solution

Certified Renewable Energy completely changes the carbon reporting and offsetting game for New Zealand businesses. It’s a product that enables businesses to report their Scope 2 electricity emissions – the ones linked to their electricity usage – as zero.

With Certified, if businesses are currently paying to offset their Scope 2 electricity emissions, they can stop. And if they're businesses that aren't currently offsetting, Certified means they don’t need to start.

Choosing Certified is a simple decision that makes a difference. It shows businesses' customers, partners, stakeholders and communities that they care about the future of our planet and that they're putting their money where their mouth is.

D&Co prepared a rapid response to conduct customer research with corporate clients, frame insights and synthesise findings to provide a set of strategic recommendations.

Post the research and synthesis D&Co worked collaboratively with Meridian Energy to develop the customer value proposition, business model canvas, brand story and programme planning.
